Resilience and Climate Change

Life’s Just Greener Here

In December 2019, the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Compact released its latest unified sea level rise projections, and the results are frightening. One expert  says sea level is now rising one inch every three years.  Flooding is certain to increase, even without increased rainfall. There is no doubt that temperature is increasing, as are the number of severe weather events.

Also, resources like water and other precious materials we need to live are limited and we need to be mindful of this fact. The City aspires to serve as an example to our residents and businesses to conserve, use, reuse and recycle everything possible. Carbon in the atmosphere is posing a real threat to humanity and we have to do our part to reduce that threat.

What Is the City Doing?

The City of Wilton Manors is committed to the following goals:

  • Conserve, reuse and recycle
  • Reduce carbon emissions through policy and practice
  • Improve, preserve and protect municipal infrastructure to increase resilience and recovery from all hazards
  • Educate, encourage and incentivize residents and businesses to do the same.

Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment Steering Committee

The City's newly formed steering committee met for the first time on January 19, 2023. Committee members represent a variety of perspectives and include public officials, members of the business community, technical experts, coastal scientists, and representatives of local special interest groups. In addition to providing guidance, steering committee members will work directly with the grantee so that components of the planning process and of the Vulnerability Assessment follow professional standards and reflect community-specific needs.
