Seawalls

Seawalls are one of the most important ways to prepare for the harmful effects of sea level rise in our community. Seawalls are almost entirely privately owned, meaning the city relies on property owners to continue building up their seawalls in order to mitigate excess water during floods.

One of the most impactful ways the community can help us ensure a safe and sustainable future for Wilton Manors is made possible only through building up our seawalls.

Seawalls Code Information

  • Residents are required to raise their seawalls 5 feet in any cases where new construction or substantial renovations take place under Ordinance 2020-002.
  • If no renovations are underway but unimpeded tidal flooding or erosion is causing flooding on adjacent property or roadways, seawalls must be raised.
  • In addition, docks (and vessels) are required to be a certain distance from property lines, and the center of the waterway.
