Starting October 1, 2023, the Wilton Manors Police Department (WMPD), in partnership with local businesses, will launch the Safe Place Program in the Island City. The program provides safe places for residents and visitors who have been victims of hate, bias, and harassment to report crimes if they don’t feel comfortable coming forward to the police department.
This program leans on partnerships with Island City businesses that volunteer to participate. Business owners and staff will be trained on how to provide a haven for crime victims, how to sensitively communicate with victims, and how to contact WMPD for assistance.
