Community Affairs Advisory Board
MISSION
The Community Affairs Advisory Board provides a vehicle to maintain a high quality of life through greater citizen participation by providing a conduit for cooperation and communication between the city commission and community; by making recommendations to the commission as appropriate of ideas for community improvement, civic projects and supporting various community events through CAAB funding, participation or full production. CAAB meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month.
The Community Affairs Advisory Board was created by ordinance and is located in the City's Code of Ordinances. CAAB's enacting Legislation can be found in Article III, Division 3 of the Code of Ordinances. Click here for direct link to Code section creating the Community Affairs Advisory Board.
If you are interested in serving on the Community Affairs Advisory Board, fill out the application, linked below, and submit to the City Clerk's Office email. CAAB requires that applicants be residents of the City or a business owner in the City.
When there is a board opening applicants will be asked to attend the City Commission Meeting to introduce themselves to the Commission prior to selection and appointment. Applications are held for one year, expiring at the end of each calendar year.
Skip Stadnik Community Spirit Awards, Black History Month, Women's History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and LGBTQ+ History Month Honorees
The Community Affairs Advisory Board seeks nominations for these three programs. Nomination forms are available via the links below and each nomination form contains the honoree criteria of each program:
Skip Stadnik Community Spirit Awards (April is Volunteer Appreciation Month) - The Community Affairs Advisory Board facilitates this annual recognition of Volunteer Individual and Volunteer Business for each year. To nominate someone for this recognition please complete the nomination form or simply send an email of 250 words or less explaining why your candidate should be recognized to community@wiltonmanors.com by March 15th of each year for the prior calendar year. Please include "Community Spirit Nominee" as email subject matter. The nomination form is "fillable" - simply input the required information, save the file, and email it to community@wiltonmanors.com.
Black History Month (February) Honorees - The Community Affairs Advisory Board recommends honorees for the annual celebration of Black History Month (February) to the City Commission. To nominate someone for this recognition, please complete the nomination form or simply send an email of 250 words or less explaining why your candidate should be recognized as an honoree for Black History Month to community@wiltonmanors.com by December 24th of each year. Please include "Black History Month Nominee" as email subject matter. The nomination form is "fillable" - simply input the required information, save the file, and email it to community@wiltonmanors.com.
Women's History Month (March) Honorees - The Community Affairs Advisory Board recommends honorees for the annual celebration of Women's History Month (March) to the City Commission. To nominate someone for this recognition, please complete the nomination form or simply send an email of 250 words or less explaining why your candidate should be recognized as an honoree for Women's History Month to community@wiltonmanors.com by January 15th of each year. Please include "Women's History Month Nominee" as email subject matter. The nomination form is "fillable" - simply input the required information, save the file, and email it to community@wiltonmanors.com.
Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15) - The Community Affairs Advisory Board selects honorees for the annual celebration of Hispanic Heritage which runs from September 15 - October 15 each year, to recognize leadership and creativity in promoting Hispanic Heritage and increasing the understanding of and appreciation for the culture of the Hispanic Community. To nominate someone for this recognition, please complete the nomination form or simply send an email of 250 words of less explaining why your candidate should be recognized as an honoree for Hispanic Heritage Month to community@wiltonmanors.com by August 15th each year. Please include "Hispanic Heritage Month Nominee" as the email subject matter. The nomination form is "fillable" - simply input the required information, save the file, and email it to community@wiltonmanors.com.
LGBTQ+ History Month (October) - The Community Affairs Advisory Board selects honorees for the LGBTQ+ History Month of October to honor exemplary role models who paved the way for LGBTQ+ rights, as well as today's trailblazers who are forging the new paths for equality. To nominate someone for this recognition, please complete the nomination form or simply send an email of 250 words or less explaining why your candidate should be recognized as an honoree for LGBTQ+ History Month to community@wiltonmanors.com by August 15th each year. Please include "LGBTQ+ History Month Nominee" as the email subject matter.
